What are we?
MESSA is a Singapore University of Technology and Design (SUTD) students social enterprise initiative aiming to provide an efficacious aid pre-, during, and post-disaster in South East Asia. 4 of us come together through Design Odyssey Programme, a joint effort between SUTD and International Design Centre (IDC), with an aim of experiencing the real start up experience, complete with mentoring by industry and academia leaders.
Before a disaster strike, MESSA aims in creating an environment that is prepared for a disaster. This could be possible through the provision of a survival kit that could be bought or be provided for free by our partners. We also aim to create a community that is able to survive even when a disaster struck.
During a disaster, MESSA aims in helping the victims through the erection of strategically MESSA posts which could cater as a base camp of those natural disasters victims, providing food, water, and electricity as well as building up a community. Using our technology, we aim to be able to spot all MESSA equipped families to be detected even when they are out of reach. We aim to be there for them especially when they needed us the most.
Post Disaster, MESSA aims to leave the area with a better stance than when we arrived to help. We aim to create a sustainable and robust community that can survive physically and economically, through the means of housing and jobs creation.
And that is our aim. We are aware that we will be faced with many challenges, however with the talents, technology, and the opportunity we have, we believe this is an achievable goal.
